Cavalier 30 - "Rumba"
Well known among sailors for their superb performance, solid construction, and intelligent design, Cavalier Yachts have long held their place as one of Australasia's most respected production yacht builders. The Cavalier 30 is a standout in this legacy - and Rumba is a particularly fine example.
Originally designed in New Zealand by legendary yacht designer Laurie Davidson and OK Dinghy champion Dave Blundell, this model evolved from the Davidson 28 (D28), gaining a longer hull and inboard rudder along the way. The result is a capable and balanced 30-footer that punches well above its weight - both on the racecourse and under sail.
Rumba has been lovingly maintained and consistently upgraded by her current owner, who has raced her weekly and kept her in top racing and cruising condition. She has a strong history of success, including winning the 2020 Sail Paradise Regatta, and she regularly places ahead of larger boats under club handicap.
Key Features:
Excellent Sailing Pedigree - Davidson's carefully designed foils and full-volume hull mean Rumba sails superbly to windward, is stiff, responsive, and vice-free under sail. A joy to helm and easy to manage.
Updated Rig and Sail Inventory - Brand new rigging in 2022, with all wiring run in conduit. Sail wardrobe includes a 2022 mainsail and heavy No. 1, plus light No. 1, No. 3, and a radial spinnaker.
Solid Construction - Built in GRP with a lead keel (7x 15mm through-bolts), GRP cockpit and main hatch. A tough and dependable cruiser/racer.
Interior with Thoughtful Layout - The spacious starboard-side galley was ahead of its time, providing excellent bench space and making her perfect for longer cruising or family weekends aboard.
Comfortable Accommodation - Sleeps four: V-berth forward, convertible dinette, and pilot berth. Full 1.8m headroom throughout the cabin.
Well Maintained - Regularly safety-checked, with Category 4 rating. New covers, toe rails, electric toilet, battery switch, and more.
Engine & Propulsion - Well-maintained Bukh 10hp diesel with a new shaft-driven Gori folding propeller. Recently serviced and running reliably.
Rumba has just been hauled out, antifouled, cut and polished -- she's ready to go today. Whether you're looking for a capable club racer, a reliable coastal cruiser, or a weekend family sailer, Rumba is a proven and affordable option with genuine pedigree.
The existing berth at Southport Yacht Club may be negotiable, and the owners are keen to sell as they prepare for retirement and road travel.
