Shannon 43 |
Shannon 43 Ketch - Cruising Yacht.
The Shannon 43 is a handcrafted, semi-custom piece of American New England heritage. Built in Bristol, Rhode Island, Shannons are as much a part of the New England landscape as Alden, Bristol, Herreshoff and Hinckley.
The hull is constructed of hand-laid fiberglass with closed-cell foam core, the lead ballast surrounding the centerboard trunk is encapsulated within the hull, with access to the centerboard through the bilge in the main saloon.
Timber joinery is in excellent condition with comfortable living above and below decks for a couple or small family. U-shaped galley enables good stability whist at sea. The L-shaped settee to starboard surrounds a drop-leaf table with lee cloths for both settees.
Both master stateroom forward (with full en-suite) and guest double aft to port are amply sized with plenty of stowage in deep shelves, drawers and lockers. A full-sized navigation station to port.
"In every condition and point of sail, she feels responsive yet solid underfoot".
With 8' 7" centreboard down draft on a close reach in 20 kts she slices through waves at 7.5+ kts, her flared bow directs the waves and spray away from the cockpit. In 30kts, she makes 8-9 kts, yet in 10 kts apparent she still makes 5.5 kts.
Offshore, she will log 150-180 mile days with ease - "Bristol Rose" logged a 200 mile day between Galapagos and the Marquesas.
With centreboard up, draft of 4' 9", the Shannon 43 can anchor in close in any anchorage and explore coastlines and inlets where others stand-off.
Features:
? Variable draft
? Wind generator on mizzen mast
? Monitor wind vane self steering
? Generous house battery bank and water tankage
? 4 burner stove & oven
? Espar heater for high latitude sailing
? Dedicated wet locker aft of day head
? New upholstery
? 4 anchors, 2 on bowsprit, offset for easy handling
? FULLY IMPORTED into Australia.
Add some upgraded gear and this yacht will continue her life on the ocean for a long time to come.
